Mountain Home Arts is a husband and wife owned business. We specialize in artisan jewelry, though we offer other handcrafted items as well. As of now, Jesse is creating all the silver and stone jewelry. The jewelry we offer is crafted by us, from the ground up, literally.
In 2021 we had the opportunity to purchase a patented piece of land that had been in the family since the 1960s. It was truly a dream come true for us. The land had been mined on a small scale for copper in the 1920s and had been explored on and off by multiple companies since, though no large scale mining had been done. Jesse's great-uncle had always thought of it as a turquoise mine. We heard stories about his great-uncle and his daughter exploring the area for turquoise.
On our first trip to the property after we purchased it, we were so excited to find turquoise for ourselves! We were armed with buckets and rock hammers and prepared for a long, dirty weekend. However, we never found the turquoise we'd heard so much about. Instead, we found the most amazing deposits of chrysocolla, accompanied with cuprite and tenorite. The minerals we found were amazing! There are multiple areas where the chrysocolla has been silicified, producing gem grade silica. And who knows, perhaps that legendary turquoise is still out there, waiting to be found by the next generation of family rock hounds.
When you hold a piece of our jewelry in your hand, know that it has been created with so much care and passion. We are blessed to be able to mine these stones without the use of heavy equipment, which greatly reduces our footprint on the earth. In addition, all the lapidary and silversmithing is done at our off grid home, nestled in the mountains of southern Oregon. Mountain Home Arts is extremely lucky to be able to bring you the gift of timeless pieces of wearable art with such an incredibly low impact to mother earth.
